Floating: Decrease stress. Reduce pain. Improve creativity.
Float therapy, sometimes referred to as floating, is a wellness service that allows the body to float effortlessly in warm, highly salted water inside a private, quiet float tank. The environment is designed to reduce external stimulation, creating a space for deep relaxation and mental reset.
At Urban Float, float therapy is a core offering at our wellness center serving the Tacoma area. Each float session takes place in a private room, allowing guests to relax without distraction in a calm, controlled environment.
Many clients use float therapy to:
Support deep relaxation and stress reduction
Promote mental clarity and calm
Encourage muscle relaxation and physical recovery
Enjoy uninterrupted personal time in a quiet setting
The water in a float tank is maintained at skin-neutral temperature, helping minimize sensory input while the high concentration of Epsom salt allows the body to float with no effort.
Float therapy can be enjoyed on its own or combined with other wellness services such as infrared sauna, red light therapy, or compression therapy as part of a personalized wellness routine.
Urban Float’s approach to floating focuses on comfort, privacy, and consistency, making float therapy accessible for both first-time guests and experienced floaters.
The more you float, the better the benefits.
Floating helps guests disconnect with clinically proven results including stress and anxiety relief, workout recovery, pain reduction, and improved mental focus. Urban Float provides safe & effective performance enhancement to help you Rise To Your Potential ™ via our float therapy services.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR FLOATING
There are several things you can do prepare for your sensory deprivation float session before floating to have a more fulfilling experience.
• New customers should arrive 15 minutes early for your floating appointment
• There is a shower in your treatment room so you can take a cooler than normal pre-shower so the float doesn't feel cold
• Find a comfortable position in the float tank and avoid touching or scratching your face
• Utilize swim caps, ear plugs or waterproof earbuds to optimize your experience
AFTER FLOATING
• Shower at your own comfort level (warm or hot)
• Use the vinegar bottle in each ear to remove any salt
• Take 15 minutes after your float therapy session to relax in our relaxation / post room
• Wait to turn on your phone/screen to let your body readjust
Remember to book your next float therapy session! Floating is clinically shown to have longer-lasting benefits the more you do it! Hours and services may vary depending on location.
Floating FAQ
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
You don’t need to bring anything besides yourself. Towels, showers, soap and shampoo, ear-plugs, etc. for your float will be provided at check-in. Bathrobes are not included. If you have long hair, you may want to bring a hair tie and comb for after your float.
WHAT TEMPERATURE IS THE WATER IN THE FLOAT TANK?
The water is heated to 93.5 degrees (skin temperature) which allows you to drift into a state of complete relaxation. Over time, you stop noticing where your body ends and the water begins.
IS THE EPSOM SALT GOOD FOR MY SKIN?
Epsom salt is actually used for treating skin ailments and will leave your skin feeling smooth and silky. We also sell our epsom salt for use at home between floats.
WHAT IF I’M CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
As you’re always in control of your floating environment, people with claustrophobia consistently report no problems with floating. At any time during your float therapy session, you can choose to float with the pod open or closed, and with the lights on or off.
CAN I DROWN IF I FALL ASLEEP?
Thankfully, you cannot drown in a float tank. The 10 inches of water is so buoyant you can’t help but float at the top. Some people do choose to sleep in the pods.
HOW IS THE FLOAT TANK KEPT CLEAN?
The highly sterile salt water is fully filtered three times between each float through a 1 micron pool filter (that’s 1/100th the diameter of a human hair!) and is sanitized with a disinfectant and UV light.
CAN I BRING A FRIEND?
Absolutely! You can’t float together in the same pod, but you can book floats at the same time.
DO I FLOAT NUDE?
Most people don’t wear a swimsuit when floating, and this is what we recommend as well. Anything you wear while floating will become heavy with Epsom salt and cause a distraction during your float.
IS IT SAFE TO FLOAT IF I AM PREGNANT?
Not only is it safe but it’s encouraged to float while pregnant! Some say floating is “a pregnancy must!” Floating allows you to escape the added stress and weight of pregnancy by being in a weightless environment, taking the strain off of your body. We have also heard testimonies that it is an awesome way to bond with your baby.
CAN I FLOAT WHILE ON MY PERIOD?
Yes, you can float while menstruating. Just follow the same protocol you would for a public swimming pool or hot tub.
ARE THERE ANY WEIGHT OR SIZE LIMITS FOR FLOATING?
Our float tanks have been tested with floaters weighing up to 350 pounds who have been able to float without issue. Feel free to come in and try it! If for some reason it simply doesn’t work, we’ll refund you! (note: this has never happened)
IS THIS NEW-AGED MUMBO JUMBO?
Floating has been around for over 40 years, and has oodles of published research to back it up. No mumbo or jumbo here.
